PNN.com Launches Ask the Bloggess

PNN.com Launches Ask the Bloggess

April 7, 2009

The Personal News Network, or PNN.com, has just launched "Ask The Bloggess," a spoof of traditional advice columns, authored by Houston-based blogger Jennifer Lawson.

Lawson is setting a lofty goal for "Ask the Bloggess:" "I am so excited about working with PNN to fix America. Then if we still have time we'll move on to Canada, which my mother always refers to as 'America's hat'."

"We are absolutely delighted to have Jenny on PNN," says Leigh Behrens, president of PNN, "Her combination of wit and sarcasm is absolutely unique and absolutely irresistible."

PNN.com bills itself as "The Global Water Cooler for Women" and the premier authority on what's on women's minds. San Francisco-based pnn.com was founded by software entrepreneur Lauren Elliott and counts Alltop.com's Guy Kawasaki among its advisers.

Tempting you with a sweet deal

Tempting you with a sweet deal

It's February and we're swooning with l'amour.

Yes, we're feeling the love at a number of events where we're spreading the word about you -- the extraordinary pnn.com community. And we hope you'll join us at a really special upcoming gathering (more on that in a minute).

First, though, you've probably seen our Valentine's e-cards. By sending a flurry of the free e-cards (it only takes a few minutes!), you could win a sweet treat: luscious dark chocolates. And these aren't just any bon bons: They're Fair Trade-made and they're Oprah's favorites. Hey, we heart you and you deserve to indulge!

Now, for the event: We're joining our friends at Kirtsy.com at the first ever Mom 2.0 Summit. It's bringing bloggers and blog fans just like you together in Houston for great conversation and quality bonding. (And you don't have to be a mom to attend -- I'm proud of being an obsessive aunt!)

We're also sponsoring a book signing there by one of our favorite supporters: the fabulous entrepreneur Guy Kawasaki (above, with me in a grainy iphone shot - sorry), who'll be chatting about his latest bestseller, "Reality Check," full of great ideas for succeeding – especially in these turbulent times. The Summit's coming up soon – Feb. 19-21 – and I hope to see you (and your friends) there!

What's also coming up is the announcement of the winner of our personal coaching contest. Yes, you've overwhelmed us with your standout entries to earn a one-on-one conversation with our own Ellen Whitehurst. Stay tuned to find out who'll be the lucky one.

Now, I'm running back to the UGCX conference, where we're also sponsoring Guy, and I'm continuing to talk about how creative and compelling you all are.

Thank you, as always, for providing plenty of inspiration.

Until next time,

Leigh

The Global Water Cooler for Women

Bonjou from Haiti

Bonjou from Haiti

Dear pnn.com friends,

The faces delight and the faces haunt.

There's the young boy who plants a kiss on me, even though I've just triggered tears with a blood test. Then there are the starving toddlers who look like baby birds as they gulp the cups of orange juice I'm holding to their mouths. Their 22-year-old mom has just learned she's HIV-positive and one of her little girls is too.

My time here in Haiti is proving to be the challenge I expected. It's also enormously rewarding. And it's a great reminder of the vastness – and the closeness -- of the global community of which we're all members.

I want to thank you for the many e-mails of encouragement I've received from you. They're helping to fuel my work at the nonprofit Friends of the Children of Haiti's medical clinic.

And you can follow what the team and I are doing via our blogging right here on pnn.com at http://haiti.pnn.com/10724-the-front-page

In addition to the Haitians I'm meeting and treating, the other team members have become like family, especially the women. (How could we not? Ten of us are sharing one bathroom in our clinic dorm!)

We're ever mindful though, that our patients are likely to have only a dirt floor and maybe a mat for sleeping.

And while our days are a frenzy of activity and full of purpose – the nights bring the return of the faces.

That's when I climb to our rooftop here on the southern coast of the island where I can gaze at the most brilliant canopy of stars I've ever seen, and reflect.

There are so many things for which I'm so grateful, and being a part of the diverse, caring and influential worldwide pnn.com community is definitely among them.

I'll be back soon (and be sharing exciting news upcoming pnn.com events and additions to our site).

And I'll be carrying the vivid memories of experiences I'll never forget, just as I know you do and will from your worthy efforts close to home or in far-flung places.

I hope you'll continue to share your views on those and all the other things -- from everyday to epic -- on your minds with your friends here on pnn.com. We want to hear it all!

Orevwa for now,

Leigh
